Creative Professional + Educator + Nerd
Associate Professor of Design
Founding Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning | Quincy University
Freelance Creative Professional
As a visual communicator, I employ the use of design as a tool for solving problems. I manage a balance of analytical and creative skill sets. I enjoy critiquing, lecturing, facilitating, and directing design work—promoting its value, and championing the culture. I stress the importance of creative problem-solving and the design field’s ability to be a differentiator in a variety of settings—design can do almost anything.
I’m an observer and fanatic of things that strike a balance between useful, beautiful, and clever. I can’t help but be hyper-aware of the small details.
I focus on clarity and communication. I’m intrigued by misunderstandings and look for solutions. I make connections and ask questions about how things work, how they are made, what they look/feel like, what they mean, why they exist, and how they can be better.
The spirit of a lifelong learner and an insatiable curiosity are at the core of who I am, what I do, and how I operate.
I’ve been a freelance designer since 2007. I’ve worked with clients in a variety of sectors; academia, non-profits, charities, manufacturing, transportation, retail, entertainment, politics, construction, gaming, technology, and more…
I’ve been a full-time educator in the tech/design industry since 2008. As a Professor of Design, I share my passion for the field and foster growth in the community.
I’ve always been someone that approaches things in an all-in fashion. In the realm of nerd culture, I partake in all things gaming (video games and tabletop games), obsess over classic monster movies, and collect (hoard?) anything that I find clever or inspiring like vintage tin toys, designer toys, children’s books, and art. Sometimes I’ll share my thoughts and hobbies on my blog.
