Pass the Pigs—Zuckerman's Famous Pig Goes to Las Vegas
If you've ever used the familiar idiom "When pigs fly", Pass The Pigs might be the game that makes you keep your word. Tossing pigs around the table, pressing your luck, and amassing points to win the game—thats the story of these 2 little pigs.
Sometimes I think about how this game might've came to be—
"Rolling dice is boring, what else could we roll?"
And some guy across the room eating a bacon cheeseburger would yell out "Hey! Why not roll pigs?".
Yes, in Pass The Pigs you take 2 miniature pigs into your hands and roll them to your heart's content.
The object of the game is to be the first person to score 100 points. But how do you score? Well, depending on the final position of the tumbling entrées, players can be awarded "pig points" ranging from 1–60 per roll. Each player tries to score as many points in one turn as they can. The "strategy" in this game is deciding whether or not you should press your luck. Players continue to roll their pigs until one of three things happens:
They decide to stop and record their points
Roll a "pig out" (2 pigs on their side, one with a black dot and one without) forcing you to lose all pig points for that turn
They roll an "oinker" (both pig dice touching in any position) which forces the player to lose all their points accumulated in the entire game.
Adult content warning:
There is actually one more thing that could stop a player’s turn. The pigs could land in the "piggy back" position which the rules state is "A totally undignified position for pigs" and that player is out of the game!
The game itself comes in a really fun case (but there are many many versions, your mileage may vary), form fitting to the miniature pig dice. Inside the case you'll find a few pencils, score pad, and of course the 2 pig dice. Perfect to keep in the car, purse, or pocket for the quick game fix.
Pass The Pigs has been my go to "filler game" for years—perfect for a quick palette cleanser between heavier games on a game night or a nice way to kill 15 minutes between things on your to-do list. Gameplay will range from just a few minutes to nearly 30 if the bacon isn't rolling your way.
At it's core its an hilarious conversation filler with just enough gameplay to keep the room competitive while still laughing their pork butts off.
(So many pig puns, sorry not sorry)
